- Founded Memberium in 2014.
- Bought Infusionsoft in 2006.
- Focused on [Infusionsoft](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/best-crms) based on the advice of a book to pick something and focus on it.
- He's not a coder, but he focused on building websites for [Infusionsoft (Keap)](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/blog/infusionsoft-sucks-keap-sucks/) users.
- Started on Joomla, then [WordPress](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/blog/hubspot-vs-wordpress-making-a-blog-post).
- He was doing custom websites for customers and was doing [e-commerce](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/blog/daniel-kurt-unific) on his own and using another CRM.

- He bought [Infusionsoft](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/best-crms) for his landscaping business (he wasn't yet focused!)
- He was not a good businessman early on.
- He hired a bookkeeper, and she never billed many of his customers.
- This all hit as 2008 was collapsing the economy, and it was too seasonal, so he shut the landscaping business down and focused on web design, and that morphed into Memberium.
- One of his website clients at the time stiffed him on a big project he built that cost him $20,000 out of his own pocket.
- From then on, he got paid upfront.
- He went back to being a solopreneur.
- He had to sell and fulfill. It was good for a while because he honed all of his skills, which helped him scale up later.
- He was making free video tutorials for Infusionsoft users.
- He helped move [Jermaine Griggs](https://thesaleswhisperer.com/blog/the-sales-podcast-top-10-2014/) to Infusionsoft.
- He put out good content and was helping people and serving the community, and he grew.
