Cursor vs. HANK: An AI Coding Tool or an AI Boss?

Facts checked on October 19, 2026. AI tools change fast. Check before you buy.

You've probably heard the name Cursor by now.

Your nephew uses it. Your web guy swears by it. Somebody on LinkedIn built a whole app with it over a weekend and won't stop talking about it.

So you're wondering: should I be using this? Is it the same kind of thing as HANK AI? Do I need both?

Short answer: Cursor isn't a HANK competitor. It's a different tool for a different job. But it can help you, and HANK can put it to work. Let me explain it in "human" vs. Geek or Internet Bro.

What is Cursor?

Cursor is an AI coding tool. It's a code editor, the program developers write software in, with an AI agent built in.

You type what you want, like "Add a sign-up form to this page" or "Find the bug that's breaking checkout."

That part isn't new. ChatGPT, Claude, and every other AI tool take requests the same way.

What sets Cursor apart is where it works. A chatbot hands you a chunk of code and wishes you luck. Cursor works inside your project. It reads every file, makes the changes, runs the tests, and fixes what broke.

The market noticed. It's one of the fastest-growing software companies ever. Bloomberg reported it hit a $3 billion annual sales rate in May 2026. In June, SpaceX agreed to buy the company that makes it for $60 billion.

And on October 12, Cursor got bundled with Grok and X Premium into one plan:

  • Plus, $8 a month: Cursor, Grok chat, and X Premium perks.
  • Premium, $30 a month: adds cloud agents, automations, code hosting, AI code reviews, and Grok Bot.
  • Super and Ultra, $100 and $200 a month: more usage.
  • Teams, $30 and up per person: admin controls and central billing.

That's a lot of tool for $30. So why am I telling most of you to leave it alone?

What's the difference between Cursor and HANK?

Cursor builds the tools. HANK runs the business.

Here's the easiest way to see it: Cursor is a table saw. HANK is the foreman.

A table saw in the hands of a carpenter builds a bookshelf in an afternoon. In your hands, it builds a crooked one, and maybe a trip to urgent care.

The foreman doesn't run the saw. He knows what needs building, hands the job to the right person with the right tool, and checks the work before the client sees it.

Abraham Maslow wrote in 1966: "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail."

Cursor is a great hammer. Your missed follow-ups aren't nails.

Should you use Cursor yourself?

If you're not technical, mostly no. Here's where I draw the line.

When it's fine

  • You're curious and want to tinker on a Saturday.
  • You want a tool only you will use, like a price calculator or a script that cleans up a spreadsheet.
  • You want a mockup of an idea to show a developer.

When it's a bad idea

  • Anything that touches customer data or money. If you can't read the code, you can't know what it does with your customers' info.
  • Anything you'll have to keep running. Software isn't a one-time build. It breaks, it needs updates, and the AI that wrote it won't get a call at 2 a.m. You will.
  • Your follow-up, inbox, calendar, and CRM. There's no software to build for those. The tools already exist. You need them run, every day, and checked.

I call this tinker-itis: you buy a power tool to save time, then spend every weekend learning to use it while the real work piles up.

How should your tech team use Cursor?

If you have developers, odds are they already use Cursor or something like it. That's good. It can make a good developer a lot faster.

Ask four questions:

  1. Who reviews the code before it goes live? Cursor's AI code review helps. A human still signs off on anything involving customers or payments.
  2. Where do the passwords and keys live? Make sure the AI agent can't see secrets it doesn't need.
  3. What's the real monthly cost? On the new plans, chat, images, and code share one weekly usage pool. Outside AI models, like Claude or GPT, are billed extra at their list prices on Premium and up. Have someone watch the bill.
  4. Whose account is it? The new plans tie Grok, Cursor, and X accounts together. Use company accounts, not someone's personal X login, so you're not stuck when that person leaves.

What if you hire a contractor who uses Cursor?

This is where you win without touching the tool.

A good contractor using Cursor or a tool like it should build your landing page, your custom form, or your connector in a fraction of the time it took three years ago. That savings should show up on your bill.

  • Pay for the result, not the hours. If AI cut the job from 40 hours to 8, a fixed price keeps the savings with you.
  • Own the code. It should live in your account, not theirs.
  • Ask who checked it. "The AI wrote it" isn't an answer. "I reviewed and tested it" is.

Cursor vs. HANK AI

  Cursor HANK AI
What is it? An AI coding tool An AI boss that runs your daily business chores
Who is it built for? Developers Business owners who don't want to become developers
What does it do? Writes, tests, and fixes software Follow-up, inbox, calendar, CRM cleanup, reports, and content
Who checks the work? You, plus AI code reviews on Premium and up Meridian, HANK's built-in inspector, before anything goes out
What skill do you need? You need to read code to trust it You need to read a draft and say yes
Who sets it up? You Michael and I install it with you on a 90-minute call
What does it cost? $8 to $200 a month, one shared usage pool, outside models extra $1,000 once, plus your own AI plan
Do they work together? Yes. HANK writes the work order. A coding tool like Cursor builds it. Meridian checks it.

Pay once. Get real help.

Here's what $1,000 buys you, one time: the inspection, the setup, the install, the consulting, the coaching, the training, and 30 days of support from Michael and me.

Not a course. Not a zip file. Not a template you copy and pray. Real help, in real time.

Can HANK and Cursor work together?

Yes, and this is the part I like.

HANK is built to plan the job and inspect the result. When a job needs real code, like a custom connection to an old system with no official plug-in, HANK doesn't wing it. He writes a work order, and a coding tool does the build.

Michael and I use Claude Code for that. Cursor can do the same job. Then Meridian, HANK's built-in inspector, checks the result before it ships.

HANK is the general contractor. Cursor is one of the power tools on the truck.

That checking step matters more than the tool. Here's a bit of history.

On October 30, 1935, Boeing's new Model 299 bomber crashed on a test flight at Wright Field. The plane was fine. The pilots forgot one step. So Army Air Corps test pilots wrote the first pilot's checklist, and pilots have used one ever since.

The Navy likes to act like they invented flying by the book. They're welcome to borrow ours. They've been borrowing our runways for years...but I digress...

The point: the tool was never the problem. The missing check was. That's why HANK has an inspector, and that's why "the AI wrote it" should never be the last step.

One more thing. The $30 Cursor Premium plan also includes Grok Bot, xAI's always-on agent. That one does overlap with HANK. I broke it down here: Grok Bot vs. HANK.

What this means for you

You don't need to learn to code. You don't need a table saw. You need the work done, done on time, and checked before it goes out the door.

Let your tech team or your contractor use Cursor. Let HANK run the business and hand them the jobs that need code.

The 90-Minute Promise

Give me 90 minutes. I'll inspect your tools, map the gap between where you are and where you want to be, and install HANK on that same call to start closing it.

If he isn't making your life easier by the time we hang up, you get your money back, you keep HANK, and Michael and I still support you for 30 days.

The $1,000 founding price holds for the first 10 owners or through October 31, whichever comes first. Then it goes to $2,000.

You'll need a paid AI plan (we run HANK on Claude) and the logins for the tools you use. We'll walk you through both before the call.

See how HANK works and claim your Gap Inspection.

It's simple, because it's so advanced.
